Welcome to Leipzig's International Neighbourhood
... and our lovely house!
is awesome
Mariannenstrasse is one of (if not the) longest unbroken Gruenderzeit streets in Leipzig - perhaps even in East Germany. Number 96 is nestled between a large green space and Eisenbahnstrasse.
Volkmarsdorf, the area in which Mariannenstrasse finds itself, is at the heart of Leipzig's most international, and interesting, city quarters.
...was built in 1892, and has stood the test of time.
Our renovations are taking care to use original materials where possible, such as chalk plasters, chalk paints, and solid wood flooring. In keeping the faith with more expensive and original building materials we are improving the quality of everybody's environment.
The house is continually being improved, thoughtfully and carefully. It may seem a little rough around the edges, but that's part of it's charm. If you don't like living in a sterile plastic cube, and like life happening around you, you'll like it here.
Excellent connections in every direction
We are less than 7 minutes by bike from the Central Station (both for Bus and Coach) and surrounded by lakes within a half-hour drive in all directions. Eisenbahnstrasse is one of the City's main Magistrale streets connecting the city with the cities and towns, and beautiful nature reserves in the east. Leipzig is also a very cyclist friendly city, with no meaningful gradients anywhere!
...plenty of shade and light.
The garden is an ongoing labour of love. You have the right to share in its use, and hopefully, to continue helping improve it. If your gardening desires are larger than the space we have available, we are also surrounded by myriad Schrebergarten (rentable small gardens) for which Leipzig is famous.
We are not an anonymous house. Everybody living here soon gets to know one another. That doesn't mean we are a commune, but we try to help each other out and communicate to make sure that everybody is content. We hope you will too.
